Javi Varas: The Best Goalkeeper No One Talks About

Enviado por j.arango el Mar, 2011-10-04 07:41.

When Andrés Palop’s level under the sticks began to deteriorate the change was going to be a tough one. Knowing that you had to be looking at making the change, the uncertainty of Javi Varas was evident. This is what made Gregorio Manzano’s move to bring Varas to the fray that much more courageous. It was finally a chance for the hometown kid to get the opportunity of a lifetime and do good on it. Varas was always a second-fiddle. An eternal promise. One of those players whose future is always going to be promising. Still there was no coach that was looked to pull the trigger on him.
At the beginning of the season the football community were pretty much penciling in Málaga as one of the four Champions League teams for next season. Their high-profile summer filled with acquisitions placed the club in a position they were never in- ever. it was kind of new to be in the spotlight when one is in contention for the top spots in any table. Málaga were never accustomed to that. Fortunately pencil is erasable. There was (and still is reason) to get excited, but let's not go overboard over one match.

Barça team of the decade

Enviado por j.arango el Mié, 2010-12-22 11:56.

Yesterday was the final match of this decade for Barcelona. Without a doubt this is one of the most glorious times in Blaugrana history. For many it is a far reach from those first five years in which there was a great deal of uncertainty both on the pitch and off of it.

Hey what happened to Diego?

In any list there is going to be a great deal of speculation.  Regardless if you have the best three players in the world, then the speculation is going to be set on the order.  It is an argument that will never end. Barcelona fans are overjoyed of the fact that three of their players were in that final list.  I know that there was a great deal of upheaval in many circles after the announcement of the three finalists in the Ballon D’Or. Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi were players that filled the description for being a legitimate candidate to win the distinction of best player on being the bes

Football making an impact in Argentina

Enviado por j.arango el Mié, 2010-10-20 08:00.

I guess you could say that I am doing a bit of bait and switch after seeing the title that I used. Maybe not. Maybe some of you might have thought that I was going to talk about how great Boca and River are doing, but that would be a disservice to anyone if I try and defend that position. Instead of wasting kilobytes on that I would rather talk about what is going on in Argentina as the Amputee World Cup is going on and the impact that the sport is making in these people’s lives is enormous.

De Jong's situation is a reflection in hypocrisy

Watching the replay of Nigel De Jong breaking Hatem Ben Arfa’s left me hurting.  It was one of the most savage challenges I have seen since...

The big issue with Schalke

Enviado por j.arango el Vie, 2010-09-17 08:37.

After their off-season of wheeling and dealing, Schalke 04 have not been able to realize that they are in a very precarious position if they want to even have a chance at the Bundesliga title. If you were to ask any pundit in Germany as to who would be winning the title outside of Bayern Munich, many would mention the Royal

An Ode to Raúl

Enviado por j.arango el Mié, 2010-07-28 07:38.

There were players in football history that marked an era we never realize wehn they do it, but when you realize it, they are ready to reach the football stratosphere.  Let's go to October 29, 1994 and then-coach Jorge Valdano decides to call a lanky 17-year old kid to the first team.  Who would have ever imagined that a young striker that came over from the broken Atlético Madrid youth system would make such an incredible splash at Valdebebas and mark an era of Spanish football.   Maybe there is little use for my wordiness, but
