Herzlich Wilkommen zu dem Betzenberg. I'm not going to focus much on the loss on the Betze against Nuernberg. Kaiserslautern had their chances, particularly in the second half, but the Nuernberg defense and goalkeeper proved to be too much of a wall to break through. Florian Dick made a defensive error which allowed der Club to score the first goal. In the 70th minute there was some drama as yet another spectator, as in St. Pauli, that decided to use their beer cups to interfere with the match as Nuernberg was taking a corner kick. The referee threatened to stop the match early, it took none other than club chairman Stefan Kuntz to be serve as an orderly to make sure that the fans in the Westkurve stayed in check. Fortunately play continued and no further action seems to have been taken against the team by the DFB. On a side note, the DFB has allowed fans to attend this weekend's match in St. Pauli, reversing their decision to have the stadium be empty due to the Beercup tossing incident there two weeks ago.

Now, this Saturday sees the Red Devils meet Schalke. Schalke is in an interesting position since they are still in contention in the Champions League, playing round one against Manchester United next week. Will they hold back against Lautern? I would argue yes, that they will play conservatively, not expending unnecessary energy or potential injuries. This would bode well for Kaiserslautern since they seem to mostly struggle when teams maintain consistent offensive pressure and show more desire than the Devils. However, Lautern will be missing several key players, Ivo Ilicevic will still be out, Adam Nemec will not participate, and Amri will also not be on the field. Ilicevic and Nemec will be sorely missed for their offensive prowess. It just does not seem to me that Kaiserslautern will be able to outplay this Schalke team and will most likely result in a loss for the Devils.

What does this mean for the standings? Well, although Kaiserlautern lost last weekend, their standing in the league table was not severely affected since Wolfsburg and St. Pauli only managed a draw and Frankfurt lost, but Stuttgart collected three points against Koeln. Moenchengladbach still has a chance, but they have to defeat Dortmund this weekend.

Ich rede nicht viel ueber die Partie auf dem Betze gegen Nuernberg. Kaiserslautern hatte Torchance, besonders in der zweiten Haelfte, aber die Nuernberger Abwehr und Torwart war eine zu grosse Mauer um durchzubrechen. Florian Dick machte einen Abwehrfehler das dass erste Tor fuer Nuernberg erlaubte. In der 70. minute gab es drama als schon wieder ein Zuschauer, wie in St. Pauli, versuchte mit Bierbechern das Spiel zu vermasseln als die Nuernberger ein Ecke ausfuehrten. Der Schiri drohte das Spiel abzubrechen, und es brauchte nichts anderes als Vorstandsitzender Stefan Kuntz als Ordner um die Fans in der Westkurve in check zu halten. Gluecklicherweise laeufte das Spiel weiter und es gab keine aktion von der DFB. Anderseits, die DFB hat sich umgestellt und jetzt duerfen Zuschauer im Millerntor am kommenden Wochenende dabei sein.

Am Samstag gehen die Lautrer auf Schalke. Schalke ist gerade in einer komischen position seitdem sie noch fuer die Champions League spielen, beziehungsweise gegen Manchester United in der folgenden Woche. Werden sie gegen Lautern zurueck halten? Ich sage ja, sie werden konservativ spielen, um energie und potenziale verletzunge zu sparen. Das koennte gut fuer Kaiserslautern sein seitdem sie immer schwierigkeiten haben gegen Mannschaften die viel druck draufhalten und mit mehr Leidenschaft spielen. Aber, Lautern wird ein paar wichtige spieler nicht dabei haben, Ivo Ilicevic faellt immer noch aus, Adam Nemec und Amri werden auch nicht auf dem Spielfeld agieren. Ilicevic und Nemec werden besonders vermmisst wegen ihre Angriffsgeiste. Ich kann einfach nicht glauben das Kaiserslautern besser spielen werden als Schalke und das wird mit einer Niederlage resultieren.

Was bedeutet das fuer die Tabelle? Na ja, obwohl Kaiserslautern am letzten wochenende verlierte, ihr standplatz auf der Tabelle hat sich nicht viel veraendert seitdem die Wolfsburg St. Pauli Partie mit einem Remis endete, Frankfurt eine Niederlage erlitt, aber Stuttgart kassierte drei Punkte gegen Koeln. Es gibt noch hoffnung fuer Moenchengladbach, aber sie muessen unbedingt gegen Dortmund gewinnen.
